Competition Update Spartanburg SC 06/16/2017
We have had a little break in the schedule and it was great to get back out there competing. We were in Spartanburg SC cooking for the Juneteenth event. Great event educating us about and celebrating the end of slavery. We didn’t have a Friday evening event so all the cookers came together for a pot luck dinner. Bucky’s provided fried fish, shrimp, scallops, and fries. Other cookers brought the sides. Potato salad, cole slaw, mac & cheese, beans, pasta salad, banana pudding, you get the point.. we had more than we could eat! Good time of fellowship together with our cooker family. We only had to cook ribs for this event. Baby Backs! Cookers all started early Saturday morning and the air was full of smoke. 21 of the best teams in the state came together to challenge each other to be on our top game. Well Chris and Kathy of Ultimate Tailgater were on the top. Followed by a Bucky’s employee, James Davila at 2nd place. Congratulations folks. Bucky’s didn’t do bad but we came in 8th less than a 1/2 a point behind the winner. Not to bad, just not good enough! Cook’s Church was great with about 25 folks coming out at 6:45 for a devotion and doughnuts with coffee. As normal I think I get more from this than anyone else, but I love doing it. I just plant the seed and God will make it grow! I also want to say a special thanks to Charles Crosby. Charles has been my faithful helper for the past 3 comps. He is not paid, he just gets bbq to eat and does the tasting! Thanks Charles you are a lifesaver! Now last but not least Thanks to Royal Oak Charcoal, Pit Barrel Cookers, and Carolina Cookwood for making this experience possible. Now in closing, competition season is over till the first week of September so I’ll stop posting till then. Thanks everyone for your support and Happy fathers Day!
